The rope used across our outdoor collections is a durable, high-performance material designed to be genuinely low maintenance. A simple routine and a little care to protect it from fading and damage, will keep it looking its best for years.

At a Glance: Do's and Don'ts

Do

Remove dust and debris regularly with a soft-bristled brush or a vacuum's soft-brush attachment
Wipe up spills immediately with a soft cloth and mild soapy water
Let furniture dry completely between uses where possible
Cover or store rope furniture when not in use to help prevent fading and extend its life
Test any fabric or upholstery protector on an inconspicuous area first, if you choose to use one

Don't

Scrub or rub the rope, work spills in gently with a blotting motion or light pressure instead
Use abrasive materials, excessive scrubbing, or high-pressure hoses
Let sharp objects — like pens or keys — come into contact with the rope, as this can cut or fray it

Everyday Care

Wipe up spills immediately with a soft cloth soaked in mild soapy water. Work the solution into the surface with a blotting motion or light pressure — never scrub.
Rinse thoroughly and allow the rope to air dry completely.
Avoid abrasive materials, excessive scrubbing, or high-pressure hoses, all of which can damage the weave over time.
Keep sharp objects away from the rope, as contact can cut or fray individual strands.
Let furniture dry completely between uses where possible. Outdoor rope is often exposed to rain and moisture, so giving it a chance to fully dry out helps prevent longer-term issues like mildew.

Protecting Against Fading

Covering or storing your rope furniture when it's not in use helps prevent fading from sun exposure and extends its overall lifespan.

Fabric Protectors

Our rope furniture is designed to be low maintenance and doesn't require any special treatment. If you'd still like to apply a fabric or upholstery protector to help guard against staining, we recommend testing it on an inconspicuous area first to make sure it doesn't affect the rope's colour or finish.

Coastal Environments and Storage

Coastal or seaside environments can accelerate salt build-up and general wear on outdoor rope, so furniture in these locations may benefit from more frequent cleaning. If your furniture is heavily soiled or stained, professional cleaning is worth considering rather than risking damage with a DIY deep clean.

If storing furniture for an extended period or over winter, clean it thoroughly first and let it dry completely before storing in a dry, cool place out of direct sunlight. Avoid storing in humid or high-moisture environments.
